- Modular — each capability lives in a focused module.
- Pure Python first — protocol functionality avoids unnecessary external binaries where practical.
- Fail-soft — external failures should degrade gracefully.
- Read-only by default — active capabilities are explicit opt-in features.
- Traceable output — scans produce timestamped, reusable reports.

The one-shot CLI now accepts the supported README options and rejects flags that do not apply to the selected mode:
python SpectraScan.py -e target@example.com -o email.json
python SpectraScan.py --phone "+14155552671" -o phone.json
python SpectraScan.py --image ./photo.jpg -o image.json

python SpectraScan.py -i 8.8.8.8 --shodan -o ip.json
python SpectraScan.py -t 10.0.0.5 --smb -o smb.json
python SpectraScan.py -t 10.0.0.5 --ldap -o ldap.jsonCredential-validation mode requires an explicit target, service, port, bounded password limit and --yes acknowledgement. SSH checks require trusted host keys or an optional SHA256 fingerprint pin. FTPS is the default for FTP service checks; plaintext FTP is available only with explicit --allow-insecure-ftp. Configure NUMVERIFY_KEY and SHODAN_API_KEY (or SHODAN_KEY) through environment variables. Never commit API keys to the repository.

The optional NVD correlation mode is separate from local port/service heuristics so ordinary scans do not unexpectedly make external API calls:
python SpectraScan.py -t 127.0.0.1 -p 22,80,443 --cve-correlate -o findings.json
python SpectraScan.py -t 127.0.0.1 -p 22,80,443 --cve-correlate --max-cve-lookups 5 -o findings.jsonOnly distinct detected products with a usable version are queried; at most 3 lookups run by default (maximum 20). Configure NVD_API_KEY through the environment. Static CPE/version matches are classified as potential unless there is stronger evidence; they are not proof of exploitability.

SpectraScan now includes an additive AsyncPortScanner engine in modules/async_scanner.py. It uses asyncio for concurrent TCP probing and aiohttp for optional HTTP enrichment without replacing the legacy PortScanner API.
CLI usage:
python SpectraScan.py -t scanme.nmap.org --async-scan
python SpectraScan.py -t scanme.nmap.org --async-scan --async-concurrency 200 --async-timeout 0.75The one-shot CLI rejects unsupported arguments instead of silently ignoring them. Examples:
python SpectraScan.py -t scanme.nmap.org -p 1-1000 -T T3 --scan-type tcp
python SpectraScan.py -t scanme.nmap.org -p 80,443 -o report.json
python SpectraScan.py -t 192.168.1.1 --scan-type udp -p 53,161 -o udp-report.json
python SpectraScan.py -t 192.168.1.0/24 -p common --exclude 192.168.1.10 --yes -o network.json
python SpectraScan.py -d example.com -o domain.json
python SpectraScan.py -i 8.8.8.8 -o ip-intelligence.jsonCIDR scans have a hard address limit set by --max-targets (default 1024), and scans over 64 addresses require explicit --yes confirmation. Exclusions can be repeated. UDP silence is reported as open|filtered, not confirmed open. Historical reports use SPECTRASCAN_HOME (default ~/.local/share/SpectraScan) and exports use atomic writes. SSH credential checks require known-host trust or a pinned SHA256 fingerprint and never store plaintext passwords.
The items below are planned work, not claims of already-shipped functionality. Priorities favor correctness and consistent data models before expanding the module count.
- Network scope and scan profiles — named `Quick`, `Full TCP`, `Web Assessment`, and `Local Network` profiles; explicit allowlists/exclusions, host caps, timeouts, concurrency and rate limits; show effective configuration and reject out-of-scope targets before scanning.
- Evidence-based vulnerability findings — normalized product/CPE/version evidence; `Confirmed`, `Potential`, and `Informational` classifications; confidence rationale, affected version ranges, CVSS data, references, and remediation guidance. Banner matches alone are not proof of exploitability.
- Deeper web/TLS audit — certificate validity/expiry and chain checks, protocol/cipher support, cookie flags, redirect behavior, and security-header analysis. Keep checks read-only by default and separate observations from confirmed vulnerabilities.
- Historical scan comparison — compare authorized scan snapshots for new/resolved ports, changed service versions, and changed findings.
- Unified reporting — JSON, CSV, HTML, Markdown, and SARIF generated from one normalized finding model.
- Plugin/protocol interface — standard inputs, deadlines, cancellation, output schema, permissions, and error handling behind a module registry rather than continuing to grow the main entry point.
- IPv6 support — integrate IPv6 targets and compatible discovery/probing into the same scan interface; improve UDP/service detection through shared result semantics.
- Passive subdomain discovery and certificate-transparency monitoring
- DNS security checks
- Docker image and reproducible container workflow
- Kerberos enumeration and AS-REP roasting detection
- Subdomain permutation and email-to-username correlation
- WebSocket / GraphQL introspection
- Multi-user collaboration and scan sharing
- Machine-learning anomaly detection, if validated against a useful baseline
- CI coverage for supported operating systems and Python versions
- Scope first: scan only assets you own or are explicitly authorized to assess. Review targets, exclusions, and scan intensity before running active checks.
- Credential testing is opt-in and uses bounded attempts, timeouts, throttling/back-off, and trusted SSH host keys or an explicitly pinned SHA-256 fingerprint. Never put passwords, API keys, or other secrets in source control or reports.
- HTTPS certificate verification is enabled for async HTTP enrichment; do not disable TLS validation to work around target errors.
- CIDR scans are bounded by `--max-targets` (default 1024); scans larger than 64 addresses require explicit `--yes` confirmation. UDP silence is reported as `open|filtered` rather than confirmed open.
- NVD CVE correlation is optional and bounded. A CPE/version correlation is evidence to investigate, not proof that a target is exploitable. Version parsing has limits for vendor-specific and prerelease formats.
- Reports may contain sensitive asset details, banners, addresses, and findings. Restrict filesystem access and sanitize before sharing.
- External APIs and optional dependencies can fail or rate-limit; interpret incomplete results accordingly.
- Dark Web Recon is intended for passive research; do not use it to access illegal content, interact with marketplaces, or conduct unauthorized activity.
- Some features require elevated privileges or platform-specific support. Cross-platform support targets Linux, Windows, and macOS.
- See SECURITY.md for supported versions and private vulnerability disclosure.
