This project demonstrates a comprehensive data warehousing and analytics solution—from building a data warehouse to generating actionable insights.
It was designed as a personal portfolio project to practice and showcase skills in SQL, data modeling, and analytics, while following industry best practices.
This project is adapted from @DataWithBaraa, who provided the original datasets and schema design.
The original project used SQL Server, and I translated the SQL code and logic into MySQL.
This allowed me to better understand SQL syntax differences and practice data warehousing concepts hands-on.
Objective:
Develop a modern data warehouse using SQL to consolidate sales data, enabling analytical reporting and informed decision-making.
Specifications:
- Data Sources: Import data from two source systems (ERP and CRM) provided as CSV files
- Data Quality: Cleanse and resolve data quality issues prior to analysis
- Integration: Combine both sources into a single, user-friendly data model designed for analytical queries
- Scope: Focus on the latest dataset only (no historization required)
- Documentation: Provide clear documentation of the data model to support both business stakeholders and analytics teams
Objective:
Develop SQL-based analytics to deliver detailed insights into:
- Customer Behaviour
- Product Performance
- Sales Trends
These insights help stakeholders understand performance and support strategic decision-making.
- Adapted SQL Server queries to MySQL
- Wrote and ran queries to load, transform, and analyze data
- Practiced building a star schema using staging, fact, and dimension tables
- Followed the structure of the original repo while learning through hands-on work
This repository is a learning adaptation of an existing project and not an original creation from scratch. The SQL work, translation to MySQL, and analysis were done by me as a way to practice real-world SQL skills.
