cloudstack 4.21 NAS backup and recovery issue.

Currently with the NAS backup and recovery feature, you are unable to create a backup if the template has been remove from the system. Same goes for present backups. If the template has been removed from the system, you will not be able to create a new instance from that backup. Are there any plans on improving this backup feature?

I encountered an issue where the created backup does not appear in the Backup function, so I’m also unable to perform a restore.
When testing on version 4.20, I did not face this issue.

We encounter the same issue using NAS Backup & Recovery. Created backups don't show up in the backup overview.

@Chih80 are you using thick, sparse or thin provisioning? It seem to me no template is needed for backups on thick provisioning, but it is in the other cases.

Hey @DaanHoogland , apologise for hijacking this issue to ask a question that is a bit related to what you mentioned.

For Disk Offerings (I am not talking about Backups), we have provisioning types: Thin, Sparse, and Fat.

For KVM+QCOW2+NFS, am I right to say that if we select Sparse or Fat, we will have volumes not linked to the template?

for Fat for sure (sorry I said thick, but that is what I meant), for Sparse I thought so as well but start doubting as I write. read the code/test it.

@Chih80 In this case you can click on the configure button and assign another template to the Instance.

@Chih80 How was the template deleted? Ideally CloudStack should throw an error when deleting a template which has deployed VMs.
I am afraid lots of other management functions in CloudStack also depend on the template to be intact.
