Templates not downloaded on new install #11855

Description

@ilsaloving-gander

problem

This is the exact same problem as #11341. I don't know why it was closed when it's still an issue.

I installed cloudstack, I selected a bunch of templates, but they didn't install.

How do I troubleshoot this? How can I force cloudstack to try to reinstall those templates?

versions

4.21, using Rocky 9

The steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Install cloudstack
  2. Select a bunch of templates
  3. Look at templates screen
    ...

What to do about it?

  1. Fix it
  2. Give instructions on how to correct the problem on existing installations.

Also not available. Something weird is going on with the networking, so the system vms were unable to send traffic anywhere. It would be helpful if the GUI reflected somewhere that the system vms were not healthy.

For the life of me I can't tell what's wrong. I'm using Rocky 9 for the host, and the latest cloudstack 4.21.

The host has a single NIC attached to cloudbr0. So far:

    • Each systemvm can ping the other fine
    • The host can ping the system VMs
      • But when I run tcpdump on the systemvm, it's not showing any traffic coming through
    • When I try to ping a system VM from, say, the management server, tcpdump on the host shows ARP requests received and answered but no ICMP traffic.

I verified ipv4.forwarding is set to 1, and selinux is permissive, so I don't understand why the packets aren't routing.

I did notice one oddity... the system vms public and private IPs are both on the same subnet. I don't know if that's the root issue or not.

@ilsaloving-gander I suspect ssvm network issue is at fault. Can you register any other template from CLI or UI to confirm that download fails for that as well.

Additionally, try to run ssvm-check inside ssvm, please refer to this wiki for more troubleshooting information https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/SSVM%2C+templates%2C+Secondary+storage+troubleshooting.

I'm going to have to put this aside for now and use something else in the meantime. I've tried a variety of different patterns and for the life of me, I can't get the systemvms to work. My latest attempt tried creating separate networks for public, mgmt and storage, and now one of the systemvms won't even start at all.

The logs show some kind of error about patching, but I don't have any more time to fiddle with it now. I'll have to revisit later. But at this point my gut is telling me there's a key configuration setting that is incorrect somewhere, that isn't handled by the cloudstack agent nor mentioned in the docs.
