Give kcap uninstall its console streams instead of the global Console - #1907
kcap uninstall read and wrote the process-global Console, so every test that captured its output or fed its prompt needed a bare [NotInParallel] and ran alone at the end of the suite. The command now takes a StandardStreams (out, error, in) from DI, and so does everything it reaches: the plugin remove calls, the local-recovery progress lines, and the daemon and watcher stop behind IOutgoingRecorders (daemon stop, cleanup). The tests of those commands hand each run their own writers, so none of them carries a bare [NotInParallel], Console.SetIn or ConsoleOutput capture
Where to look
StandardStreams is transient, so a command reads the console as it stands when it is built
DaemonCommands, CleanupCommand and AgentCommand write only through their streams now, and PluginCommand's Kiro rollback and usage lines go through its environment's stderr
DaemonServiceCommands hands Console.Error to the shared ledger helper explicitly, since uninstall does not reach it
Verification
Run
Result
UninstallCommandTests, seam added but writes not routed
13 of 54 failed, all on empty captured output or the missing y reply
New survivor pin, survivor line put back on Console.Error
failed, "Watcher s-a is still running." missing from the command's stderr
Agent, daemon, cleanup, and uninstall commands now consistently send prompts, messages, and errors through the appropriate input, output, and error streams. This makes command-line interactions more predictable when streams are redirected or captured. Existing command behavior, messages, and results remain unchanged.
The daemon-stop step it runs through IOutgoingRecorders still writes to the
process console, so only the command's own output is captured

CLI commands now route prompts, output, and diagnostics through supplied standard streams. Unit tests use per-test streams instead of global console capture. Command validation and outcomes remain unchanged.
Changes: CLI Standard Stream Injection
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Define and register standard streams src/Capacitor.Cli/Commands/StandardStreams.cs, src/Capacitor.Cli/Commands/CommandServices.cs
Adds the StandardStreams record for output, error, and input. Registers streams from the process console.
Agent and daemon commands write prompts, output, and diagnostics through supplied streams. Related tests capture command output and error through writers.
Lifecycle and plugin command paths pass writers to message-rendering operations. Tests provide fixture-owned streams, including input for prompt cases.
Watcher-stop diagnostics can bypass the supplied error stream during cleanup or uninstall. This is a bounded issue that can be fixed before merging or accepted for follow-up.
Security architecture risk: Minimal · up to cd14c
The inspected changes make command input and output explicit without changing confirmation rules, process-control authority, or cleanup ordering. Default operation still uses the process console. No material security risk was found introduced or worsened by this PR.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The inspected change affects command I/O composition, not the scope of process-control requests. Default stream selection remains process-local; no new remote stream-selection input or authority expansion was identified in these paths.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — The inspected daemon comparison preserves detached-start digest predicates, PID ownership checks, service-managed shutdown handling, and ledger interruption transitions. The changes supply diagnostic writers rather than bypass those controls.

Route kcap uninstall and stop output through per-command streams
🐞 Bug fix🧪 Tests🕐 40+ Minutes
AI Description
• Inject stdout, stderr, and stdin so uninstall no longer relies on process-global console state.
• Pass those streams through plugin removal, local recovery, daemon stopping, and watcher cleanup.
• Give tests independent writers and prompt input, allowing affected cases to run in parallel.
Keep the injected-stream approach: it preserves the CLI's normal process console while giving each test run independent I/O. Global console capture or synchronization would retain the parallel-test constraint, and a broader logging abstraction would add unnecessary scope.

• Fixtures supply stdout, stderr, and optional prompt input to uninstall and its recorder dependencies, replacing global captures and Console.SetIn. A new test verifies that daemon-stop, watcher-cleanup, and surviving-watcher messages reach the run's writers; affected tests shed their parallelism restrictions.
1. Watcher stop errors bypass the command's own stderr✓ Resolved
Description
CleanupCommand.HandleCleanup now writes its own lines to console.Out, but it calls
watchers.KillWatcher(key), and WatcherManager.KillWatcher still writes its per-watcher
diagnostics (recycled PID, exited gracefully, force-killed, `Error killing watcher … keeping its pid
file) straight to the global Console.Error. These lines are reached from kcap uninstall` and
kcap cleanup through OutgoingRecorders.StopAsync, so the error that explains a `Could not stop
watcher` failure never reaches the injected stderr, and any test that captures its own writers
misses it while the line leaks into whatever the process-global console is.
ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs
Evidence
CleanupCommand gets StandardStreams but passes nothing to WatcherManager.KillWatcher. KillWatcher
writes every outcome to Console.Error. OutgoingRecorders, the stop step that uninstall uses, builds
new CleanupCommand(watchers, console), so the PR's claim that every write uninstall reaches goes
through its streams is not true for these lines.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
`WatcherManager.KillWatcher` writes its diagnostics to the global `Console.Error`. `CleanupCommand` and `OutgoingRecorders` (used by `kcap uninstall`) now write through an injected `StandardStreams`, so these watcher lines skip the command's own stderr and are missing from any output a test captures.
## Fix Focus Areas
- src/Capacitor.Cli/WatcherManager.cs[100-170]
- src/Capacitor.Cli/Commands/CleanupCommand.cs[20-36]
## Recommended Fix
Add a `TextWriter stderr` parameter to `KillWatcher`. Keep an overload that defaults to `Console.Error` for the other callers, such as the respawn path. Replace each `Console.Error.WriteLineAsync` inside it with `stderr.WriteLineAsync`. In `CleanupCommand.HandleCleanup`, call `watchers.KillWatcher(key, console.Error)`. Then add a test assertion that a failed kill's message shows up in the command's captured stderr.

2. Cleanup tests can overload the runner✓ Resolved
Description
CleanupCommandTests starts a real child process with DummyProcess.StartSleep(30) but has no
ParallelLimiter<SubprocessLimit>. Removing the class-level serialization allows this process-heavy
test to run alongside other unrestricted subprocess tests.
The checklist requires every test class that starts real subprocesses to use the shared
ParallelLimiter<SubprocessLimit>. The PR removes [NotInParallel] from CleanupCommandTests,
while the test still calls DummyProcess.StartSleep(30), which launches an operating-system child
process.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
`CleanupCommandTests` starts a real operating-system child process but no longer has either a subprocess limiter or class-level serialization, allowing unrestricted concurrent subprocess execution.
## Fix Focus Areas
- test/Capacitor.Cli.Tests.Unit/Commands/CleanupCommandTests.cs[5-16]
- test/Capacitor.Tests.Helpers/DummyProcess.cs[20-40]
## Recommended Fix
Annotate `CleanupCommandTests` with `[ParallelLimiter<SubprocessLimit>]` and retain only test-specific synchronization where needed for shared state.

3. Daemon stop tests can overload the runner✓ Resolved
Description
DaemonCommandsStopTests starts daemon child processes with DummyProcess.StartSleep(120) but the
PR removes its class-level [NotInParallel] without adding ParallelLimiter<SubprocessLimit>. The
stop-process tests can therefore run without the shared limit intended to control concurrent
operating-system subprocesses.
ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs
Evidence
The compliance rule requires a shared subprocess limiter for test classes that start real child
processes. The PR deletes [NotInParallel] from DaemonCommandsStopTests, whose StartDaemon()
helper calls DummyProcess.StartSleep(120) and therefore launches an OS subprocess.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
`DaemonCommandsStopTests` launches real daemon child processes but has no `ParallelLimiter<SubprocessLimit>` after class-level serialization was removed.
## Fix Focus Areas

- test/Capacitor.Tests.Helpers/DummyProcess.cs[20-40]
## Recommended Fix
Annotate `DaemonCommandsStopTests` with `[ParallelLimiter<SubprocessLimit>]` so all real daemon subprocesses participate in the shared constrained pool.

4. Uninstall tests can overload the runner✓ Resolved
Description
UninstallCommandTests adds a test that starts DummyProcess.StartSleep(30) but the class has no
ParallelLimiter<SubprocessLimit>, while several existing tests also lose [NotInParallel]. The
resulting class can launch real child processes concurrently with other unrestricted subprocess
tests.

Relevance
● Weak
A recent precedent rejected adding the shared subprocess limiter to tests spawning real processes.
ⓘ Recommendations generated based on similar findings in past PRs
Evidence
The rule requires every test class that starts real subprocesses to use
ParallelLimiter<SubprocessLimit>. The PR adds DummyProcess.StartSleep(30) to
UninstallCommandTests, whose class has no limiter, and also removes [NotInParallel] from tests
in that class.
The issue below was found during a code review. Follow the provided context and guidance below and implement a solution
## Issue description
`UninstallCommandTests` now includes a real child-process test and removes serialization from multiple tests, but the class does not participate in the shared subprocess limiter.

## Recommended Fix
Annotate `UninstallCommandTests` with `[ParallelLimiter<SubprocessLimit>]` so the added watcher process and other real subprocesses are scheduled through the shared limit.
