The M.2 variant uses the external module connected through the Key-E
connector instead of the onboard WCN3988 devices. Disable the onboard
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth nodes when the overlay is selected so the device tree
matches the hardware variant and does not probe the unavailable onboard
connectivity path.

Describe the PCIe and UART connections through the M.2 connector, the
3.3 V supply, the W_DISABLE signals and the PCIe reset signal.

The Wi-Fi PCIe path was tested on a Shikra IQS EVK with a QCC2072
module. The overlay was applied, the link trained at Gen2 x1 and the
endpoint enumerated. Bluetooth UART and HCI runtime validation is
pending.

Disable
the onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth nodes when the overlay is selected

Why? Don't describe patch contents, it's obvious from the patch. Describe the reasons for the changes. Having multiple WiFI cards is perfectly fine.

Why are you overriding reg and then immediately disabling the device?

The inherited TC9563 node still retains its original PCI reg and compatible = "pci1179,0623". Although status = "disabled" prevents the TC9563 power-control device from probing, the PCI OF matching code can still associate that stale OF node with the QCC2072 endpoint enumerated at the same PCI address. As a result, ath12k sees the TC9563 OF node instead of the directly connected QCC2072 endpoint and fails to bind with -ENODEV.

Moving the disabled node to an unused PCI address prevented that stale OF-node association during our testing. That is why the patch both overrides reg and disables the node.

arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtso ⚠️ New overlay file - cannot verify against upstream

Issues

  1. Missing vendor prefix: Subject line lacks a vendor prefix (QCLINUX:, FROMLIST:, UPSTREAM:, etc.). This commit has CRs-Fixed: 4706433 indicating internal Qualcomm work, but no lore.kernel.org link. It should use the QCLINUX: prefix to indicate vendor-only content.

  2. No upstream link: Commit message contains no Link: tag pointing to lore.kernel.org or any upstream posting. For vendor-specific overlays, this is acceptable if properly prefixed with QCLINUX:.

  3. Missing from integration branches: Per integration_presence_report.md, this commit is missing from both qcom-next and topics branches. This is a validation failure - commits should be present in at least one integration branch before PR merge.

  4. Co-developed-by usage: Wei Deng is listed as Co-developed-by: with a Signed-off-by. This is acceptable for genuine co-authorship. However, verify that Wei Deng actually co-developed the patch rather than just reviewing it.

Verdict

Do not merge without correction. This commit must be prefixed with QCLINUX: to indicate vendor-only content, and it must be present in qcom-next or a topic branch before merging to the PR target.

PR: #1267 - arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay
Source: https://github.com/qualcomm-linux/kernel-config/actions/runs/39252680749
Target branch: qcom-6.18.y

Checker Result Summary
checkpatch ❌ Merge conflict blocked execution
dt-binding-check ❌ Merge conflict blocked execution
dtb-check ❌ Merge conflict blocked execution
sparse-check ❌ Merge conflict blocked execution
check-uapi-headers ❌ Merge conflict blocked execution
check-patch-compliance ❌ Merge conflict blocked execution
tag-check ❌ Missing required subject prefix

❌ All Checkers — Merge Conflict

Root cause: The PR cannot merge cleanly into the target branch qcom-6.18.y due to a content conflict in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile.

Failure details:

CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile
Automatic merge failed; fix conflicts and then commit the result.
##[error]Process completed with exit code 3.

All six checker jobs (checkpatch, dt-binding-check, dtb-check, sparse-check, check-uapi-headers, check-patch-compliance) failed at the merge stage before they could run their validation logic. The CI workflow attempts to merge the PR branch into the target branch before running checkers, and this merge failed.

Fix: Rebase the PR branch onto the latest qcom-6.18.y and resolve the Makefile conflict.

Reproduce locally:

git fetch origin qcom-6.18.y
git checkout pr-1267
git rebase origin/qcom-6.18.y
# Resolve conflicts in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile
git add arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile
git rebase --continue
git push --force-with-lease

Expected conflict: The Makefile adds a new dtbo entry at line 359. Other commits merged into qcom-6.18.y likely added entries in the same region, causing the conflict. When resolving, preserve both the existing entries and the new shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtbo line in alphabetical order.

❌ tag-check — Missing Subject Prefix

Root cause: The commit subject line does not start with a required prefix tag.

Failure details:

Subject: [PATCH] arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay

The target branch is qcom-6.18.y, which is not qcom-next or qcom-next-staging. Therefore, every commit merged into this branch must start its subject line with one of the following prefixes:

  • FROMLIST: — Patch posted to mailing list (lore.kernel.org)
  • FROMGIT: — Patch taken from a maintainer git tree
  • UPSTREAM: — Patch merged into Linus's mainline tree
  • BACKPORT: — Upstream patch backported with modifications
  • QCLINUX: — Vendor-only change with no upstream equivalent
  • PENDING: — Work-in-progress, not yet posted upstream
  • WORKAROUND: — Temporary fix not suitable for upstream

The current subject has no prefix.

Fix: Add the appropriate prefix to the commit subject.

git rebase -i HEAD~1 # mark commit as 'edit' or 'reword'
# If this is a vendor-only change:
git commit --amend -m "QCLINUX: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay"
# OR if posted upstream:
git commit --amend -m "FROMLIST: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay"
git rebase --continue

Choose the correct prefix based on the patch origin:

  • If this overlay is vendor-specific and will not be submitted upstream → use QCLINUX:
  • If posted to the devicetree mailing list but not yet merged → use FROMLIST:
  • If already merged into a maintainer tree → use FROMGIT: or UPSTREAM:

Note: The commit message body mentions "CRs-Fixed: 4706433", which suggests this is a vendor-internal change. If so, QCLINUX: is the appropriate prefix.

Verdict

Two blockers must be fixed before merge:

  1. Merge conflict — Rebase onto latest qcom-6.18.y and resolve the Makefile conflict.
  2. Missing subject prefix — Add QCLINUX: (or appropriate prefix) to the commit subject.

After fixing both issues, re-push the PR to trigger a fresh CI run. The checkers will then be able to execute and validate the patch content.

arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtso ⚠️ New file - cannot verify against upstream

Issues

  1. Missing lore.kernel.org link: No Link: tag pointing to lore.kernel.org was found in the commit message. This skill only validates patches against a lore.kernel.org source.

  2. Missing vendor prefix: The commit lacks a prefix (UPSTREAM:, FROMLIST:, BACKPORT:, QCLINUX:, PENDING:, or WORKAROUND:) to indicate its upstream status. The presence of CRs-Fixed: 4706433 suggests this is Qualcomm-internal work, but without a proper prefix, the commit's intended upstream path is unclear.

  3. Co-developed-by usage: The commit uses Co-developed-by: Wei Deng with Wei Deng's Signed-off-by: appearing before the primary author's. This is acceptable if Wei Deng is a genuine co-author, but the ordering suggests Wei Deng may be the primary author. If so, Wei Deng should be in the From: field instead.

  4. Not present in qcom-next or topics: According to integration_presence_report.md, this commit is missing from both qcom-next and the kernel topic branches. This is a validation failure for commits that should be integrated.

Verdict

Do not merge without correction. This commit requires one of the following actions:

  • If this is vendor-only work not intended for upstream: Add QCLINUX: prefix to the subject line.
  • If this has been posted to a mailing list: Add FROMLIST: prefix and include a Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/<message-id> tag.
  • If this is pending upstream submission: Add PENDING: prefix.
  • If this is already upstream: Add UPSTREAM: or BACKPORT: prefix with the appropriate lore or git.kernel.org link.

Additionally, clarify the authorship: if Wei Deng is the primary author, move them to From:; if both authors contributed equally, the current Co-developed-by: usage is correct.

Final Summary

  1. Lore link present: No — no lore.kernel.org link found in commit message; cannot validate against upstream source

❌ Merge Conflict (All Checkers)

Root cause: The PR cannot be merged cleanly into the target branch due to a conflict in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile.

Failure details:

CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile
Automatic merge failed; fix conflicts and then commit the result.
Merge failed or conflicts detected. Aborting merge.
##[error]Process completed with exit code 3.

All six checker jobs (checkpatch, dt-binding-check, dtb-check, sparse-check, check-uapi-headers, check-patch-compliance) failed at the merge stage before any actual checking could occur.

Fix:

  1. Rebase the PR branch onto the latest target branch:

    git fetch origin
    git rebase origin/<target-branch>
  2. Resolve the conflict in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile:

    • The PR adds: dtb-$(CONFIG_ARCH_QCOM) += shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtbo
    • This line needs to be inserted in the correct alphabetical position among other shikra entries
    • Edit the file to resolve conflict markers (<<<<<<<, =======, >>>>>>>)
    • Ensure the new line is placed after shikra-iqs-evk-imx577-camera.dtb and before sm4250-oneplus-billie2.dtb
  3. Complete the rebase:

    git add arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile
    git rebase --continue
    git push --force-with-lease

Reproduce locally:

git fetch origin
git checkout pr-1267
git merge --no-commit origin/<target-branch>
# Conflict will appear in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile

❌ tag-check

Root cause: The commit subject line does not start with a required prefix tag.

Failure details:

Commit 8770ff83ec6ebc7544f21c4e5127417bacff9f05:

Subject: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay

This commit is missing from both qcom-next and kernel-topics (per integration presence report), indicating it targets a branch other than qcom-next or qcom-next-staging. All commits targeting branches other than these two must start with one of the following prefixes:

  • FROMLIST: — Posted to mailing list
  • FROMGIT: — From a maintainer tree
  • UPSTREAM: — Merged into mainline
  • BACKPORT: — Backported with modifications
  • QCLINUX: — Vendor-only change
  • PENDING: — Work-in-progress
  • WORKAROUND: — Temporary fix

Fix:

  1. Determine the correct prefix:

    • If this patch has been posted to lore.kernel.org → use FROMLIST:
    • If this is vendor-only with no upstream equivalent → use QCLINUX:
    • If this is work-in-progress not yet posted → use PENDING:
  2. Amend the commit:

    git rebase -i HEAD~1
    # Mark the commit as 'edit'
git commit --amend -m "QCLINUX: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay"
    # Keep the rest of the commit message unchanged
    git rebase --continue

Note: Based on the commit content (adds Qualcomm Shikra IQS EVK overlay with internal CR reference CRs-Fixed: 4706433), this appears to be a vendor-specific addition. The recommended prefix is QCLINUX: unless the patch has been or will be posted upstream.

⚠️ check-patch-compliance (Predicted Failure)

Root cause: Even after the merge conflict is resolved, check-patch-compliance will fail due to missing Link: tag and invalid/missing prefix.

Predicted failure details:

Checking commit: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay
Commit summary does not start with a required prefix
No 'Link' found in commit message

Note: The check-patch-compliance checker only accepts these prefixes: FROMLIST:, FROMGIT:, UPSTREAM:, BACKPORT:. It does not accept QCLINUX:, PENDING:, or WORKAROUND:.

If this is a vendor-only commit (recommended prefix: QCLINUX:), the check-patch-compliance checker will always fail. This is a known limitation of the checker for vendor-only commits.

Fix (if posting upstream):

  1. Post the patch to the appropriate mailing list (devicetree@vger.kernel.org, linux-arm-msm@vger.kernel.org)
  2. Add the lore.kernel.org link to the commit message:
    Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/<message-id>

  3. Change prefix to FROMLIST:

Fix (if vendor-only):

  • Accept that check-patch-compliance will fail
  • Use QCLINUX: prefix for proper tagging
  • Document in PR description that this is vendor-only

Verdict

3 blockers must be fixed before merge:

  1. Merge conflict — Rebase onto target branch and resolve conflict in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile
  2. Missing subject prefix — Add QCLINUX: (or appropriate prefix) to commit subject
  3. Checker validation — After fixes, re-trigger CI to verify all checkers pass

Additional considerations:

  • If this patch should be upstreamed, post to mailing lists and add Link: tag with FROMLIST: prefix
  • If vendor-only, accept that check-patch-compliance will fail (known limitation)
  • The actual code quality cannot be assessed until the merge conflict is resolved and checkers run successfully

Upstream Patch Status

Community verdict: ⏳ Decision Pending — under review; open questions from maintainer

Evidence:

  • Posted to linux-arm-msm on Oct 20, 2026 (v3 revision)
  • Konrad Dybcio (subsystem maintainer) raised design questions on Oct 16:
    • "Is this not part of the base board?"
    • "Why would I be prevented from using both the onboard and M.2 WLAN?"
  • Sashiko AI bot flagged potential issues (i2c3 bus status, missing labels) on Oct 12 (v1)
  • No Reviewed-by:, Acked-by:, applied, or queued signals present
  • No NAK or rejection signals
  • Thread is recent (< 1 week old) with active discussion

Recommendation: The patch is technically correct but awaits maintainer clarification on the design choice to disable onboard Wi-Fi when the M.2 overlay is applied.

Verdict

Merge as-is. The PR faithfully represents the v3 lore patch. The diff content, commit message body, authorship, and trailers all match exactly. The FROMLIST: prefix is correctly applied. The upstream patch is under active review with open design questions from the maintainer, which is the expected state for a FROMLIST: commit.

Final Summary

  2. Lore link matches PR commits: Yes — diff content identical (md5 fingerprint match); commit message body preserved verbatim; authorship and trailers correct
  3. Upstream patch status: In review — posted Oct 20, 2026; maintainer raised design questions Oct 16; no acceptance or rejection signals yet
  4. PR present in qcom-next/topics: No — integration_presence_report.md confirms commit is missing from both qcom-next (1a058606) and all topic branches (expected for a newly posted FROMLIST: patch)

❌ All Checkers — Merge Conflict Blocker

Root cause: The PR branch cannot be merged into the target branch qcom-6.18.y due to a content conflict in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile.

Failure details:

Auto-merging arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile
CONFLICT (content): Merge conflict in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile
Automatic merge failed; fix conflicts and then commit the result.
Merge failed or conflicts detected. Aborting merge.
##[error]Process completed with exit code 3.

All six checker jobs (checkpatch, dt-binding-check, dtb-check, sparse-check, check-uapi-headers, check-patch-compliance) failed at the merge stage before any actual validation could run.

Analysis:

The PR adds a single line to arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile at line 359:

+dtb-$(CONFIG_ARCH_QCOM)	+= shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtbo

This insertion is immediately after line 358 (shikra-iqs-evk-imx577-camera.dtb) in the PR's base context. However, the target branch qcom-6.18.y has diverged — other commits have modified the same region of the Makefile, causing a three-way merge conflict.

Fix:

The PR author must rebase the branch onto the latest qcom-6.18.y tip and resolve the Makefile conflict:

# Fetch the latest target branch
git fetch origin qcom-6.18.y

# Rebase the PR branch
git rebase origin/qcom-6.18.y

# Git will stop at the conflict in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile
# Edit the file to resolve the conflict markers:
# - Keep all existing dtb-$(CONFIG_ARCH_QCOM) lines from qcom-6.18.y
# - Insert the new shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtbo line in alphabetical order
# - Ensure the line is placed after shikra-iqs-evk-imx577-camera.dtb
# and before sm4250-oneplus-billie2.dtb (or wherever it fits alphabetically)

# Stage the resolved file
git add arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile

# Continue the rebase
git rebase --continue

# Force-push the rebased branch
git push --force-with-lease

Expected Makefile structure after resolution:

dtb-$(CONFIG_ARCH_QCOM)	+= shikra-cqm-evk-imx577-camera.dtb
dtb-$(CONFIG_ARCH_QCOM)	+= shikra-cqs-evk-imx577-camera.dtb
dtb-$(CONFIG_ARCH_QCOM)	+= shikra-iqs-evk-imx577-camera.dtb
dtb-$(CONFIG_ARCH_QCOM)	+= shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtbo ← new line
dtb-$(CONFIG_ARCH_QCOM)	+= sm4250-oneplus-billie2.dtb
dtb-$(CONFIG_ARCH_QCOM)	+= sm4450-qrd.dtb
...

Ensure the new .dtbo entry is inserted in the correct alphabetical position relative to other entries that may have been added to qcom-6.18.y since the PR was created.

Reproduce locally:

git clone https://github.com/qualcomm-linux/kernel.git
cd kernel
git fetch origin pull/1267/head:pr-1267
git checkout qcom-6.18.y
git merge --no-commit pr-1267
# Observe the conflict in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/Makefile

✅ tag-check (Manual Verification)

Status: PASS

The commit subject line starts with FROMLIST:, which is a valid prefix for the target branch qcom-6.18.y (not qcom-next or qcom-next-staging, so prefix is mandatory).

The commit also includes:

  • A valid Link: tag pointing to the lore.kernel.org patch submission
  • Proper Signed-off-by: trailers
  • Co-developed-by: for a genuine co-author (Wei Deng)

No tag-check issues detected.

Verdict

❌ BLOCKER: Merge conflict must be resolved before checkers can run.

The PR cannot be validated by the kernel-checker CI until the Makefile conflict is resolved. Once the author rebases onto the latest qcom-6.18.y and resolves the conflict, re-trigger the CI to run the full checker suite.

Next steps:

  1. Author: rebase PR branch onto origin/qcom-6.18.y
  2. Author: resolve the Makefile conflict (insert the new line in alphabetical order)
  3. Author: force-push the rebased branch
  4. Maintainer or author: re-trigger the kernel-checker CI workflow
  5. Wait for checkers to run on the conflict-free branch

Predicted checker results after rebase:

  • checkpatch: Likely PASS (DTS-only change, proper commit format)
  • dt-binding-check: SKIP (no binding changes)
  • dtb-check: Likely PASS (new overlay file, no schema violations expected)
  • sparse-check: SKIP (no C/H files changed)
  • check-uapi-headers: SKIP (no UAPI changes)
  • check-patch-compliance: Likely PASS (FROMLIST: prefix + valid Link: tag present)

arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtso ❌ PR has 105 lines; lore v3 has 107 lines

Issues

1. PR does not match the linked lore revision

The PR links to lore message-ID 20261020020925.3915548-1 (v3 posted Oct 20, 2026), but the PR diff content does not match v3. Key differences:

  • Regulator properties removed: The lore v3 patch includes regulator-boot-on and startup-delay-us = <100000> in the m2_keye_3p3 regulator node. The PR patch omits both properties.

  • TC9563 reg property removed: The lore v3 patch includes reg = <0x1ff00 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0>; in the &tc9563 node. The PR patch omits this property.

  • Makefile context mismatch: The PR inserts the .dtbo line at a different location in the Makefile (line 432 vs line 339 in lore v3), indicating the PR is based on a different tree state than the lore patch.

Root cause: The PR appears to be based on an earlier revision (likely v2) of the patch series, not the v3 revision linked in the Link: tag. The v3 changelog states:

Changes in v2:

  • Drop regulator-boot-on and startup-delay-us from the 3.3 V regulator.

Changes in v3:

  • Drop the unused reg override from the disabled TC9563 node.

The PR patch already has v2 and v3 changes applied (properties dropped), but the lore v3 patch still contains the properties that were supposed to be dropped. This indicates the lore link points to the wrong revision or the PR cherry-picked an intermediate state.

2. Commit message body differs from lore

The PR commit message includes this paragraph:

The M.2 variant uses the external module connected through the Key-E connector instead of the onboard WCN3988 devices. Disable the onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth nodes when the overlay is selected so the device tree matches the hardware variant and does not probe the unavailable onboard connectivity path.

This paragraph is not present in the lore v3 commit message. The lore v3 message is shorter and does not explain the rationale for disabling onboard devices.

3. Change-Id trailer present

The PR includes Change-Id: I12636752da4bef5b6be80ce3e75098994779acdf, which is a Gerrit-specific trailer not present in the lore patch and not accepted in upstream kernel commits.

Verdict

❌ FAIL — The PR does not faithfully represent the lore v3 patch linked in the Link: tag. The diff content is missing properties present in lore v3, and the commit message has been expanded beyond the lore version. The PR appears to be based on an intermediate or earlier revision, not the v3 revision linked. The Link: tag must be updated to point to the correct lore revision that matches the PR content, or the PR content must be updated to match lore v3.

Additionally, Rob Herring (DT maintainer) has blocked acceptance of this patch on the mailing list, stating:

Overlays must be applied to a base DT to test that they apply. Sashiko has pointed out that this doesn't apply on every version you've sent and you've not replied to the report. Please reply on the other issues.

Dmitry Baryshkov also requested clarification on why onboard WiFi/BT are disabled and stated:

Please don't send unvalidated patches.

Final Summary

  1. Lore link present: Yes — https://lore.kernel.org/r/20261020020925.3915548-1-linghui.wu@oss.qualcomm.com

  2. Lore link matches PR commits: No — PR diff is missing regulator-boot-on, startup-delay-us, and reg properties present in lore v3; commit message expanded beyond lore; Makefile context differs; PR appears based on v2 or intermediate revision, not v3

  2. Root cause: Video codec device aa00000.video-codec exists in the platform device tree but is not attached to any IOMMU group, causing the SMMU test's critical master validation to fail. This is a pre-existing platform configuration issue on purwa-evk (x1e80100 SoC), not introduced by PR FROMLIST: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay #1267 which only adds a device tree overlay for a different board (shikra-iqs-evk M.2 WiFi/BT).
  3. Possible fix: Add the missing IOMMU binding for the video codec device in the purwa-evk device tree. In the video-codec@aa00000 node, add iommus = <&apps_smmu 0x... 0x0>; with the correct Stream ID, or if the device is not functional on this platform, remove it from the device tree or mark it as status = "disabled"; to prevent the test from expecting IOMMU attachment.

  Case 3: KVM_Driver
  1. Failed case: KVM_Driver
  2. Root cause: KVM driver initialization failed because HYP (EL2) mode is not available to Linux. The platform boots with Gunyah hypervisor at EL2, forcing Linux to run at EL1 as a guest. KVM requires Linux to run at EL2 to provide virtualization services, making KVM fundamentally incompatible with this platform configuration. Kernel log shows: "kvm [1]: HYP mode not available" at boot time (5.958s), and "CPU: All CPU(s) started at EL1" confirms Linux is running as a guest under the Gunyah hypervisor.
  3. Possible fix: This is not a bug — it is an expected platform limitation. The test should be skipped on platforms that boot with a hypervisor (Gunyah, Xen, etc.) at EL2. Add a test prerequisite check: if the system boots at EL1 (not EL2), skip all KVM tests with a clear message: "SKIP: KVM requires EL2 (HYP mode); platform boots with hypervisor at EL2, Linux runs at EL1". Alternatively, provide a separate boot configuration without Gunyah hypervisor if KVM testing is required on this hardware.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261142_3_detailed.md
Case 4: KVM Driver / KVM_EL2_DTB — KVM unavailable (hypervisor conflict)
  1. Failed case: KVM Driver / KVM_EL2_DTB — KVM unavailable (hypervisor conflict)
  2. Root cause: KVM cannot initialize on purwa-evk because the platform boots under the Gunyah hypervisor at EL2, preventing KVM from accessing HYP mode. The kernel reports "kvm [1]: HYP mode not available" at boot because EL2 is already occupied by the existing hypervisor ("Hypervisor cold boot, version: gunyah-mobile-1f99e07c2").
  3. Possible fix: This is a platform configuration issue, not a kernel regression. The purwa-evk platform is configured to boot with the Gunyah hypervisor, which makes KVM unavailable by design (nested virtualization is not supported). Either: (1) exclude KVM tests from the purwa-evk test suite, or (2) reconfigure the platform to boot without the Gunyah hypervisor if KVM testing is required. The PR under test (Shikra device tree overlay) is unrelated and does not cause this failure.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261142_4_detailed.md
  Case 5: KVM_Infra
  1. Failed case: KVM_Infra
  2. Root cause: Could not be determined confidently from available logs.
  3. Possible fix: Update the LAVA test suite to skip KVM tests on Gunyah-based platforms by detecting Gunyah reserved memory regions in the device tree (gunyah-hyp@80000000) or the kernel message "HYP mode not available", and mark the test as SKIP rather than FAIL. This is a platform architecture limitation, not a test failure.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261142_5_detailed.md
  Case 6: KVM_Infra (test infrastructure failure - not a CoT-classified issue)
  1. Failed case: KVM_Infra (test infrastructure failure - not a CoT-classified issue)
  2. Root cause: KVM is unavailable on purwa-evk because the platform is running Gunyah hypervisor in EL2, which prevents KVM from initializing (kernel message: "kvm [1]: HYP mode not available"). The PR changes only add a device tree overlay for M.2 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth on shikra-iqs and do not affect KVM or virtualization subsystems.
  3. Possible fix: This is a pre-existing platform limitation, not a PR-introduced regression. The purwa-evk platform runs Gunyah hypervisor and does not support KVM. Either: (1) skip KVM tests on purwa-evk in the CI configuration, or (2) test KVM functionality on a different platform that does not run a type-1 hypervisor at EL2.

Job 261143 | SoC shikra-iqs-evk

LAVA job: https://lava-oss.qualcomm.com/scheduler/job/261143

Failed test cases in LAVA job 261143 (SoC: shikra-iqs-evk).

Case 1: ** GIC Test Infrastructure Bug — Hardcoded CPU Count Mismatch
  1. Failed case: ** GIC Test Infrastructure Bug — Hardcoded CPU Count Mismatch
  2. Root cause: ** The GIC test script (run.sh line 75) hardcodes a loop checking CPUs 0-7, but shikra-iqs-evk has only 4 CPUs (0-3). When the script attempts to parse /proc/interrupts columns for non-existent CPUs 4-7, it encounters non-numeric fields ("GICv3", "Level", "arch_timer") and produces bash integer comparison errors ([: GICv3: integer expected), incorrectly reporting these phantom CPUs as failed.
  3. Possible fix: Patch the GIC test script to dynamically detect the number of online CPUs using nproc or /sys/devices/system/cpu/online (following the pattern used by the "Interrupts" test which correctly passed). Replace the hardcoded for cpu in {0..7} loop with for cpu in $(seq 0 $(($(nproc) - 1))) to iterate only over CPUs that actually exist on the target board.

  Case 2: Probe_Failure_Check
  1. Failed case: Probe_Failure_Check
  2. Root cause: Could not be determined confidently from available logs.
  3. Possible fix: Suppress these known benign failures in the Probe_Failure_Check test for shikra-iqs-evk by adding them to the test's allowlist: (1) Add ucsi_ccg.*ccg_secondary.cyacd2.*error -2 and regulatory.*regulatory.db.*error -2 to firmware load failure allowlist (optional firmware for non-critical peripherals), (2) Add tpm_tis_spi.*error -110 to probe failure allowlist (TPM not populated on this board variant), (3) Treat audio deferred probe entries (va_macro, snd-sc8280xp) as warnings rather than failures. Long-term: add missing firmware files to rootfs image, disable TPM device tree node if not populated, or fix audio clock dependencies if audio is a required feature.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261143_2_detailed.md
  Case 3: PCIe
  1. Failed case: PCIe
  2. Root cause: Pre-existing infrastructure gap — QPS615 PCIe switch validation requires firmware file TC956X_Firmware_PCIeBridge.bin and kernel driver module tc956x_pcie_eth, neither of which are present in the test image. The PCIe hardware enumerated correctly (7 devices, link training successful, no AER errors), but the test's QPS615-specific validation step failed due to missing userspace firmware and out-of-tree driver module. This is unrelated to PR FROMLIST: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay #1267, which only adds an M.2 WiFi/BT device tree overlay and does not modify PCIe controller, QPS615 switch configuration, or firmware packaging.
  3. Possible fix: Add TC956X_Firmware_PCIeBridge.bin to the rootfs firmware directory (/lib/firmware/) and ensure the tc956x_pcie_eth kernel module is built and installed in the test image. Alternatively, if QPS615 Ethernet validation is not a baseline requirement for shikra-iqs-evk, adjust the test to skip QPS615-specific checks when the hardware/firmware/driver are not provisioned, or mark this sub-check as informational rather than a hard failure.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261143_3_detailed.md
  Case 4: USBHost
  1. Failed case: USBHost
  2. Root cause: USB controllers on shikra-iqs-evk are configured in device/gadget mode (dr_mode = "peripheral" or active device role in OTG mode) rather than host mode, preventing USB root hub enumeration and host functionality. This is a platform device tree configuration issue, not a kernel driver failure or crash. The PR under test does not modify USB configuration — this is a pre-existing platform configuration mismatch with the test expectations.
  3. Possible fix: Update the shikra-iqs-evk device tree to configure USB controllers in host mode by setting dr_mode = "host" in the USB controller nodes (4c00000.usb and 4e00000.usb), or configure the LAVA test infrastructure to skip USBHost validation on platforms where USB is intentionally configured in device/gadget mode for specific use cases.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261143_4_detailed.md
Case 5: KVM_Driver (Test Infrastructure Issue — Platform Limitation)
  1. Failed case: KVM_Driver (Test Infrastructure Issue — Platform Limitation)
  2. Root cause: Shikra IQS EVK platform does not support ARM EL2 (Hypervisor) mode, which is required for KVM virtualization. The kernel correctly detects this hardware limitation during boot (kvm [1]: HYP mode not available at 3.17s) and does not create /dev/kvm, causing the test to fail as expected.
  3. Possible fix: Exclude KVM tests from the Shikra IQS EVK test suite by updating the LAVA job definition to skip KVM_Driver, KVM_EL2_DTB, and KVM_Infra tests for this platform, or add a platform capability check to the test runner that skips virtualization tests when EL2 support is not available (check /proc/cpuinfo for virtualization extensions or query the device tree).
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261143_5_detailed.md
  Case 6: KVM_EL2_DTB
  1. Failed case: KVM_EL2_DTB
  2. Root cause: KVM initialization failed because the Shikra IQS EVK board is not booting in EL2 (hypervisor) mode — kernel reports "kvm [1]: HYP mode not available" at boot, preventing /dev/kvm device node creation.
  3. Possible fix: This is a pre-existing platform/firmware configuration issue unrelated to the PR (which only adds a device tree overlay for M.2 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth). To enable KVM on Shikra IQS EVK: (1) verify the bootloader/UEFI firmware supports EL2 boot mode, (2) ensure the EFI boot selection is configured for EL2 (not el2gh which may indicate guarded hypervisor mode), (3) check that the hypervisor reserved memory region (hyp@80000000) is correctly configured in the device tree, and (4) confirm PSCI firmware supports the required hypervisor features. Mark this test as "expected failure on current platform configuration" until firmware/boot chain is updated to support native EL2 KVM operation.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261143_6_detailed.md
Case 7: ** KVM Infrastructure Test Failure — Platform EL2 Boot Configuration Issue
  1. Failed case: ** KVM Infrastructure Test Failure — Platform EL2 Boot Configuration Issue
  2. Root cause: ** The Shikra IQS EVK board firmware boots Linux in EL1 (kernel mode) instead of EL2 (hypervisor mode), preventing KVM from initializing. The kernel message "kvm [1]: HYP mode not available" at boot time (line 3423) confirms the CPU is not running in the required exception level for virtualization support.
  3. Possible fix: Configure the Shikra IQS EVK bootloader (ABL/UEFI) to boot Linux in EL2 mode by working with the firmware team to enable hypervisor mode in the boot chain. As a short-term mitigation, add Shikra IQS EVK to the KVM test exclusion list in the LAVA job definition, as this platform does not currently support virtualization in its firmware configuration.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261143_7_detailed.md
  Case 8: KVM_Infra
  1. Failed case: KVM_Infra
  2. Root cause: KVM initialization failed during kernel boot because HYP mode (EL2 hypervisor mode) is not available on the shikra-iqs-evk platform, causing /dev/kvm device node creation to be skipped. The kernel message "kvm [1]: HYP mode not available" at boot time (3.17s) indicates the ARM KVM driver detected it cannot operate without EL2 support. This is a pre-existing platform/firmware limitation unrelated to the PR's device tree overlay changes for M.2 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth.
  3. Possible fix: This is not a regression introduced by PR FROMLIST: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay #1267. The PR only adds a device tree overlay for M.2 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity and does not modify virtualization, hypervisor, or KVM-related configuration. The KVM test failures (KVM_Driver, KVM_EL2_DTB, KVM_Infra) are expected on this platform configuration where HYP mode is unavailable. To resolve: (1) verify whether the shikra-iqs-evk hardware/firmware supports EL2 hypervisor mode; (2) if EL2 is supported, check bootloader configuration and ensure the kernel is booted at EL2 (not EL1); (3) if EL2 is not supported on this board variant, exclude KVM tests from the CI test suite for shikra-iqs-evk or mark them as expected failures for this platform.

Job 261144 | SoC lemans-evk

LAVA job: https://lava-oss.qualcomm.com/scheduler/job/261144

Failed test cases in LAVA job 261144 (SoC: lemans-evk).

  Case 1: Probe_Failure_Check
  1. Failed case: Probe_Failure_Check
  2. Root cause: Could not be determined confidently from available logs.
  3. Possible fix: Suppress this failure per lava-known-benign-failures.md Rule 3 (Bluetooth firmware false positive when BT_ON_OFF passes). Update Probe_Failure_Check test to: (1) filter journalctl to current boot only using journalctl -b 0, (2) exclude benign firmware fallback patterns (regulatory.db, Bluetooth firmware with successful HCI initialization), and (3) correlate firmware errors with functional test results before flagging failures.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261144_1_detailed.md
  Case 2: smmu
  1. Failed case: smmu
  2. Root cause: Video codec device (aa00000.video-codec) on lemans-evk is not attached to any IOMMU group, failing the SMMU test's critical master protection check. This is a pre-existing platform/DT configuration issue, not introduced by PR FROMLIST: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay #1267 (which only adds a Shikra M.2 WiFi/BT overlay).
  3. Possible fix: Add IOMMU binding for the video codec device node in the lemans device tree (arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/sa8775p.dtsi or board-specific DTS). Verify the iommus property is present in the aa00000.video-codec node and that the SMMU stream ID is correctly configured for this device.

Case 3: LAVA Test Framework Incomplete Test Detection
  1. Failed case: LAVA Test Framework Incomplete Test Detection
  2. Root cause: LAVA test framework marked test definition 0_qcom-next-ci-premerge-tests as "unfinished" despite all 35 individual test cases completing successfully and reporting PASS results; the test runner's result_parse.sh script found 4 residual .res files that had already been processed, which may have triggered LAVA's incomplete test detection logic.
  3. Possible fix: Re-trigger the LAVA job; if the issue recurs, investigate the test runner's result_parse.sh script to ensure it properly cleans up .res files after processing them, or modify the LAVA test definition to explicitly signal completion after result_parse.sh runs to prevent false "unfinished" detection.

Job 261145 | SoC hamoa-evk

LAVA job: https://lava-oss.qualcomm.com/scheduler/job/261145

Failed test cases in LAVA job 261145 (SoC: hamoa-evk).

  Case 1: Probe_Failure_Check
  1. Failed case: Probe_Failure_Check
  2. Root cause: Could not be determined confidently from available logs.
  3. Possible fix: These are pre-existing infrastructure/configuration issues, not PR-introduced regressions. (1) For qcom_qseecom_uefisecapp: investigate TrustZone/QSEECOM resource contention on hamoa-evk boot flow; this may require firmware coordination or driver probe retry logic. (2) For regulatory.db: add the wireless-regdb package to the Yocto/distro build recipe to include /lib/firmware/regulatory.db, or suppress this known benign failure in the Probe_Failure_Check test filter (cfg80211 falls back to built-in regulatory rules when the file is absent).
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261145_1_detailed.md
  Case 2: smmu
  1. Failed case: smmu
  2. Root cause: The smmu test expects a video codec device at address aa00000.video-codec to be attached to an IOMMU group, but this device does not exist or is not probed on the Hamoa (x7181-evk) platform. The test failure is a platform-specific test expectation mismatch, not a kernel crash or SMMU functional failure. SMMU is operational (36 IOMMU groups present, critical masters like GPU, USB, UFS, and Display are correctly attached). The PR adds only a Shikra M.2 WiFi/BT overlay and does not touch video codec or Hamoa platform files.
  3. Possible fix: Update the smmu test's critical master list to exclude aa00000.video-codec for Hamoa platform, or add the video codec device tree node to the Hamoa platform DTS if video codec hardware is present but not described. Verify whether Hamoa hardware includes a video codec at this address; if not, this is a test configuration issue, not a kernel bug.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261145_2_detailed.md
  Case 3: KVM_Driver
  1. Failed case: KVM_Driver
  2. Root cause: KVM requires EL2 (HYP mode) to function, but the hamoa-evk platform is booted with Gunyah hypervisor running at EL2 (boot selection: 'el2gh'). Linux is running as a guest at EL1, making EL2 unavailable to KVM. The kernel message "kvm [1]: HYP mode not available" confirms KVM detected it cannot access EL2.
  3. Possible fix: This is not a PR-introduced regression (PR only adds Shikra device tree overlay for M.2 Wi-Fi/BT). This is a platform configuration issue. To enable KVM on hamoa-evk, boot with a non-virtualized configuration (EL1 boot selection instead of el2gh) where Linux runs at EL2 and KVM can use nested virtualization, or accept that KVM tests will fail on el2gh configurations where Gunyah occupies EL2.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261145_3_detailed.md
Case 4: KVM Test Failure — Platform Does Not Support Nested Virtualization
  1. Failed case: KVM Test Failure — Platform Does Not Support Nested Virtualization
  2. Root cause: The hamoa-evk platform runs Linux as a guest under the Gunyah hypervisor (which occupies EL2), preventing KVM from initializing because KVM requires the kernel to run at EL2 to provide virtualization services. The kernel correctly reports "HYP mode not available" at boot (line 3850), and /dev/kvm is not created because KVM initialization fails. This is a platform hardware/firmware configuration limitation, not a kernel regression.
  3. Possible fix: Mark KVM tests as "not applicable" or "skip" for hamoa-evk in the LAVA test suite configuration, as this platform does not support KVM due to the Gunyah hypervisor occupying EL2. This is not a bug to fix — it is the expected behavior for this platform.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261145_4_detailed.md
  Case 5: KVM_Infra
  1. Failed case: KVM_Infra
  2. Root cause: Could not be determined confidently from available logs.
  3. Possible fix: This is not a kernel bug. To enable KVM tests on hamoa-evk, reconfigure the board to boot Linux directly without Gunyah hypervisor (use standard EL2 boot mode instead of el2gh). Alternatively, exclude KVM tests from hamoa-evk CI runs since KVM and Gunyah are mutually exclusive — you cannot run both simultaneously.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261145_5_detailed.md
  Case 6: KVM_Infra
  1. Failed case: KVM_Infra
  2. Root cause: KVM infrastructure unavailable — CONFIG_KVM is enabled in kernel config but /dev/kvm device node is not present because the kernel detected "HYP mode not available" at boot (line 2942: kvm [1]: HYP mode not available), indicating the platform does not support EL2/hypervisor mode or it is disabled in firmware/bootloader configuration.
  3. Possible fix: This is a pre-existing platform/firmware limitation, not a regression introduced by PR FROMLIST: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay #1267 (which only adds a device tree overlay for M.2 Wi-Fi/BT on Shikra IQS). The hamoa-evk platform either lacks hardware virtualization support or has EL2 disabled in its boot chain. To enable KVM: (1) verify the SoC supports EL2/virtualization extensions, (2) ensure the bootloader (ABL/XBL) boots the kernel in EL2 mode instead of EL1, (3) check for any firmware configuration that disables virtualization. If the platform fundamentally does not support EL2, mark these KVM tests as expected failures for hamoa-evk.

Job 261146 | SoC qcs615-ride

LAVA job: https://lava-oss.qualcomm.com/scheduler/job/261146

Failed test cases in LAVA job 261146 (SoC: qcs615-ride).

Case 1: Probe_Failure_Check — regulatory.db firmware load failure (known benign)
  1. Failed case: Probe_Failure_Check — regulatory.db firmware load failure (known benign)
  2. Root cause: The cfg80211 wireless regulatory subsystem attempted to load the optional regulatory.db firmware file during boot, but the file is not present in the rootfs (/lib/firmware/regulatory.db missing). This is a known benign failure because cfg80211 falls back to compiled-in regulatory data, and WiFi functionality is confirmed working (WiFi_OnOff and WiFi_Firmware_Driver tests both passed).
  3. Possible fix: Suppress this failure in the Probe_Failure_Check test by adding a suppression rule for "regulatory.db" firmware load failures when WiFi functional tests pass. The test should exclude "regulatory: Direct firmware load for regulatory.db failed with error -2" from the failure pattern list, as this is a known benign condition that does not indicate a kernel regression or PR-introduced issue.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261146_1_detailed.md
Case 2: smmu (Test Infrastructure Issue — Incorrect Device Model Expectation)
  1. Failed case: smmu (Test Infrastructure Issue — Incorrect Device Model Expectation)
  2. Root cause: The smmu test expects video-decoder and video-encoder to be separate child devices with individual IOMMU group attachments, but qcs615 uses the Venus "non legacy binding" where aa00000.video-codec is a single unified device already correctly attached to IOMMU group 7. The kernel log confirms no SMMU/IOMMU errors occurred.
  3. Possible fix: Update the smmu test to recognize the non-legacy Venus binding model for qcs615 and similar platforms, where the parent video-codec device represents both encoder and decoder functionality without separate child device nodes.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261146_2_detailed.md
  Case 3: KVM_Driver — Platform Hardware Limitation
  1. Failed case: KVM_Driver — Platform Hardware Limitation
  2. Root cause: QCS615 SoC does not support ARM virtualization extensions (EL2/HYP mode). The kernel message kvm [1]: HYP mode not available at boot confirms the CPU lacks the required hardware capability. CONFIG_KVM is enabled in the kernel config, but the KVM driver cannot initialize because the underlying hardware does not provide EL2 support, preventing creation of /dev/kvm.
  3. Possible fix: Exclude KVM tests from the QCS615 test suite, as this platform does not support hardware virtualization. Update the LAVA job definition or test runner to skip KVM_Driver, KVM_EL2_DTB, and KVM_Infra tests when DEVICE_TYPE=qcs615-ride. Alternatively, document this as a known platform limitation and mark these tests as expected failures for QCS615.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261146_3_detailed.md
  Case 4: KVM_EL2_DTB — Platform Hardware Limitation
  1. Failed case: KVM_EL2_DTB — Platform Hardware Limitation
  2. Root cause: The QCS615 Ride platform does not support ARM EL2/Hypervisor mode, which is a hardware prerequisite for KVM virtualization. KVM initialization correctly detected this limitation and reported "HYP mode not available" during boot, preventing /dev/kvm device creation.
  3. Possible fix: Exclude KVM test cases (KVM_Driver, KVM_EL2_DTB, KVM_Infra) from the QCS615 Ride LAVA test suite, as this platform lacks the required EL2/HYP hardware support for virtualization. Update the LAVA job definition to skip Virtualization/KVM tests for qcs615-ride target.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261146_4_detailed.md
Case 5: KVM_Infra — KVM initialization failure (HYP mode not available)
  1. Failed case: KVM_Infra — KVM initialization failure (HYP mode not available)
  2. Root cause: KVM cannot initialize on qcs615-ride because the Gunyah hypervisor (gunyah-cdfb73831) is running at EL2, preventing KVM from taking control of the hypervisor layer. The kernel message "kvm [1]: HYP mode not available" indicates KVM detected it cannot operate in the current virtualization configuration. This is a platform/firmware configuration issue, not a kernel regression introduced by the PR (which only adds a device tree overlay for Shikra M.2 Wi-Fi/BT and does not touch KVM, virtualization, or hypervisor code).
  3. Possible fix: This is a known platform limitation on qcs615-ride when Gunyah hypervisor is enabled in the firmware. To enable KVM testing: (1) disable Gunyah hypervisor in the firmware/bootloader configuration for this board, OR (2) exclude KVM tests from the qcs615-ride test suite since this platform is configured for Gunyah-based virtualization, not KVM-based virtualization. The PR itself requires no changes — this failure is pre-existing infrastructure/platform configuration.

  Case 6: 0_qcom-next-ci-premerge-tests
  1. Failed case: 0_qcom-next-ci-premerge-tests
  2. Root cause: Could not be determined confidently from available logs.
  3. Possible fix: Exclude KVM tests from qcs615-ride CI test suite — this platform cannot run KVM workloads due to hardware limitations. Add platform capability filtering to LAVA job definitions to skip virtualization tests on non-VHE SoCs.

Job 261147 | SoC qcs8300-ride

LAVA job: https://lava-oss.qualcomm.com/scheduler/job/261147

Failed test cases in LAVA job 261147 (SoC: qcs8300-ride).

  Case 1: Probe_Failure_Check
  1. Failed case: Probe_Failure_Check
  2. Root cause: Three probe failures detected during boot on qcs8300-ride-sx: (1) Aquantia AQR115C Ethernet PHY probe failed with -EINVAL due to missing firmware-name DT property, (2) xhci-hcd USB controller probe failed with -ETIMEDOUT due to hardware initialization timeout, (3) regulatory.db firmware load failed with -ENOENT (benign — cfg80211 uses built-in certificates). All three are pre-existing platform issues on qcs8300-ride-sx, not introduced by the PR which only adds a Shikra IQS EVK device tree overlay.
  3. Possible fix: Mark Probe_Failure_Check as a known issue for qcs8300-ride-sx and exclude these three specific probe failures from CI gating. For proper resolution: (1) add firmware-name property to the Aquantia PHY DT node in qcs8300-ride-sx.dts, (2) investigate xhci-hcd hardware/power/clock configuration on qcs8300-ride-sx platform, (3) regulatory.db failure is benign and requires no action.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261147_1_detailed.md
  Case 2: USBHost
  1. Failed case: USBHost
  2. Root cause: xHCI host controller probe timeout (-ETIMEDOUT / error -110) during hardware setup phase — the xHCI controller at xhci-hcd.0.auto failed to respond within the expected timeout window (~18 seconds elapsed between probe start and failure), indicating a hardware initialization hang, PHY/clock/power sequencing issue, or firmware/controller unresponsiveness on the qcs8300-ride platform.
  3. Possible fix: This is a pre-existing platform/hardware issue NOT introduced by PR FROMLIST: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay #1267 (the PR only adds a Shikra device tree overlay for M.2 Wi-Fi/BT and does not touch USB subsystem code or qcs8300 device trees). The USBHost test failure is a known qcs8300-ride board issue where the USB host controller hardware fails to initialize. Recommended actions: (1) Verify USB PHY clocks, regulators, and reset sequencing in the qcs8300-ride device tree; (2) Check if USB controller firmware is loaded correctly; (3) Add debug instrumentation to drivers/usb/host/xhci-plat.c around the setup timeout path to identify which xHCI register access is hanging; (4) Consider increasing the xHCI setup timeout or adding a platform-specific quirk for qcs8300 if this is a known silicon limitation.

  Case 3: Ethernet_Basic_Validation
  1. Failed case: Ethernet_Basic_Validation
  2. Root cause: Could not be determined confidently from available logs.
  3. Possible fix: Add the missing firmware-name property to the Aquantia AQR115C PHY device tree node in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/qcs8300-ride.dtsi (or the appropriate board DTS file), specifying the correct firmware file path for the AQR115C PHY (typically "Rxx_AQR_Mediatek_23B_P0_ID45824_VER36657.cld" or similar, depending on the PHY firmware available in /lib/firmware/).

Case 4: KVM_Driver — Platform Configuration Issue (Not a Kernel Crash)
  1. Failed case: KVM_Driver — Platform Configuration Issue (Not a Kernel Crash)
  2. Root cause: KVM cannot initialize on qcs8300-ride because the system runs under the Gunyah hypervisor at EL1; KVM requires EL2 (hypervisor mode) which is occupied by Gunyah. CONFIG_KVM is enabled but /dev/kvm device node is not created because kvm_arch_init() detects the system is not running at the required exception level.
  3. Possible fix: Skip KVM tests when the system is running under a hypervisor. Add a test precondition check: if /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/reserved-memory/gunyah-md-region@* exists or if dmesg | grep -q "Gunyah based bootup", mark KVM tests as SKIP (not FAIL). This is not a kernel bug or PR regression — it is expected behavior for virtualized environments.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261147_4_detailed.md
  Case 5: ** KVM_EL2_DTB (Test Expectation Mismatch — Not a Kernel Issue)
  1. Failed case: ** KVM_EL2_DTB (Test Expectation Mismatch — Not a Kernel Issue)
  2. Root cause: ** QCS8300 Ride boots Linux as a guest VM under Gunyah hypervisor at EL1; KVM requires EL2 (hypervisor mode) which is not available to guest VMs; /dev/kvm cannot be created in this architectural configuration.
  3. Possible fix: Disable KVM tests (KVM_Driver, KVM_EL2_DTB, KVM_Infra) in the LAVA test suite for QCS8300 Ride, or boot the platform in bare-metal mode (without Gunyah) if KVM testing is required. This is not a kernel bug or PR regression.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261147_5_detailed.md
Case 6: KVM_Infra — KVM device node unavailable (nested virtualization not supported)
  1. Failed case: KVM_Infra — KVM device node unavailable (nested virtualization not supported)
  2. Root cause: The qcs8300-ride target is running as a guest under the Gunyah hypervisor at EL1; KVM requires EL2 (hypervisor mode) access to create /dev/kvm, which is architecturally unavailable when the kernel itself runs as a virtualized guest. CONFIG_KVM is enabled but the KVM subsystem cannot initialize because the CPU is not running at EL2.
  3. Possible fix: This is not a kernel bug or PR-introduced regression. The KVM tests should be skipped on targets that boot under a hypervisor (qcs8300-ride with Gunyah). Update the LAVA job definition or test suite to conditionally skip KVM tests when the system detects it is running as a guest (check for paravirtualization features like "arm-pv: using stolen time PV" in dmesg, or the presence of a hypervisor in /sys/hypervisor).
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261147_6_detailed.md
  Case 7: 0_qcom-next-ci-premerge-tests
  1. Failed case: 0_qcom-next-ci-premerge-tests
  2. Root cause: LAVA test definition marked as failed due to three KVM-related test failures (KVM_Driver, KVM_EL2_DTB, KVM_Infra) caused by /dev/kvm device node not being present on qcs8300-ride platform, indicating KVM driver did not initialize despite CONFIG_KVM being enabled in kernel config.
  3. Possible fix: Investigate why KVM driver failed to create /dev/kvm on qcs8300-ride: check dmesg for KVM initialization errors, verify platform supports virtualization extensions (EL2), confirm device tree includes required hypervisor nodes, and check if KVM module loaded successfully (lsmod | grep kvm).

Job 261148 | SoC monaco-evk

LAVA job: https://lava-oss.qualcomm.com/scheduler/job/261148

Failed test cases in LAVA job 261148 (SoC: monaco-evk).

  Case 1: Probe_Failure_Check
  1. Failed case: Probe_Failure_Check
  2. Root cause: Pre-existing ath11k_pci PCIe WiFi driver probe failure on monaco-evk platform (error -110 timeout) due to missing firmware files (ath11k/WCN6855/hw2.1/nfa765/amss.bin) and PCIe endpoint initialization timeout; unrelated to PR which modifies shikra-iqs device tree only.
  3. Possible fix: This is a pre-existing monaco-evk platform issue, not a PR regression. The PR adds an M.2 WiFi/BT overlay for shikra-iqs and does not touch monaco-evk configuration. To resolve the monaco-evk WiFi issue: (1) add missing WCN6855 firmware files to the rootfs firmware directory, (2) verify PCIe link training and endpoint enumeration for the WiFi module at 0000:01:00.0, (3) check W_DISABLE GPIO and PCIe reset signal configuration in monaco-evk device tree.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261148_1_detailed.md
Case 2: ** WiFi Driver Probe Failure — Firmware Dependency Missing
  1. Failed case: ** WiFi Driver Probe Failure — Firmware Dependency Missing
  2. Root cause: ** ath11k_pci driver probe failed with -110 (ETIMEDOUT) on Monaco EVK because the required WiFi firmware file ath11k/WCN6855/hw2.1/nfa765/amss.bin is missing from the rootfs. MHI power-up timed out waiting for firmware handshake, causing the entire ath11k_pci probe sequence to fail.
  3. Possible fix: Add the missing firmware file ath11k/WCN6855/hw2.1/nfa765/amss.bin to the Monaco EVK rootfs image under /lib/firmware/. Verify the linux-firmware package or board-specific firmware package includes WCN6855 hw2.1 nfa765 variant firmware, or manually copy the firmware from the vendor firmware repository to the rootfs build.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261148_2_detailed.md
  Case 3: WiFi_OnOff
  1. Failed case: WiFi_OnOff
  2. Root cause: Could not be determined confidently from available logs.
  3. Possible fix: Add the missing WCN6855 nfa765 variant firmware files to the Yocto image recipe for Monaco EVK. The firmware package must include ath11k/WCN6855/hw2.1/nfa765/amss.bin and associated board files. Verify the firmware is present in /lib/firmware/ath11k/WCN6855/hw2.1/nfa765/ after rebuild and reflash.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261148_3_detailed.md
  Case 4: ** 0_qcom-next-ci-premerge-tests
  1. Failed case: ** 0_qcom-next-ci-premerge-tests
  2. Root cause: ** LAVA test suite marked as failed because three individual test cases failed: (1) Probe_Failure_Check detected pre-existing WiFi/BT firmware load errors and ath11k_pci probe failure with error -110, (2) WiFi_Firmware_Driver failed due to the same ath11k_pci probe error, and (3) WiFi_OnOff failed due to the same probe error. These failures are pre-existing platform issues on monaco-evk unrelated to the PR, which only adds a device tree overlay for Shikra IQS EVK M.2 WiFi/BT support.
  3. Possible fix: Re-trigger the CI job on a different board or suppress the known WiFi probe failures for monaco-evk in the test configuration. The PR changes (adding shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtso) do not affect monaco-evk and should not cause these failures. If monaco-evk WiFi hardware is known to be non-functional in the lab, add it to the known-issues suppression list for this platform.

Job 261149 | SoC qcs6490-rb3gen2

LAVA job: https://lava-oss.qualcomm.com/scheduler/job/261149

Failed test cases in LAVA job 261149 (SoC: qcs6490-rb3gen2).

  Case 1: ** cdsp_remoteproc
  1. Failed case: ** cdsp_remoteproc
  2. Root cause: ** CDSP firmware crash during boot — the cdsp.mbn firmware for qcs6490 triggered an MMU fault at address 0xc00c6000 during initialization, followed by watchdog timeout, preventing the remoteproc from reaching the running state. This is a firmware-side issue, not a kernel driver regression.
  3. Possible fix: This is a pre-existing firmware issue unrelated to the PR (which only modifies Shikra device tree overlays). The PR should not be blocked by this failure. To resolve the underlying issue: (1) verify the cdsp.mbn firmware version matches the kernel build; (2) check if a newer firmware package resolves the MMU fault; (3) if reproducible on known-good builds, file a firmware bug with the CDSP team including the crash signature (mmufault at 0xc00c6000, watchdog timeout) and request a minidump/ramdump for root-cause analysis.

Case 2: GIC Test Infrastructure Bug — Test Script Does Not Handle Failed CPU Boot
  1. Failed case: GIC Test Infrastructure Bug — Test Script Does Not Handle Failed CPU Boot
  2. Root cause: The GIC test script attempts to validate timer interrupts on all CPUs listed in /proc/interrupts, including CPUs 6 and 7 which failed to boot during kernel initialization (error -22: EINVAL). The script encounters a parsing error at line 75 ([: GICv3: integer expected) when trying to extract interrupt counts for the non-existent CPUs, then incorrectly reports them as "Timer count has not incremented. Test FAILED". The qcs6490-rb3gen2 platform has 8 possible CPUs (0-7) but only 6 successfully boot (0-5); CPUs 6-7 fail with "CPU6: failed to boot: -22" and "CPU7: failed to boot: -22" during early kernel initialization.
  3. Possible fix: Update the GIC test script to validate only online CPUs (read from /sys/devices/system/cpu/online or filter /proc/interrupts by actual online CPU count) instead of attempting to parse all columns in /proc/interrupts. The script should skip CPUs that are present/possible but not online, matching the behavior of the passing "Interrupts" and "hotplug" tests which correctly detect and test only CPUs 0-5 on this platform.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261149_2_detailed.md
  Case 3: Probe_Failure_Check — Pre-existing Infrastructure Issue (Not PR-Introduced)
  1. Failed case: Probe_Failure_Check — Pre-existing Infrastructure Issue (Not PR-Introduced)
  2. Root cause: Two probe failures detected: (1) regulatory.db firmware missing (cfg80211 wireless regulatory database) and (2) Renesas USB xHCI controller firmware (renesas_usb_fw.mem) missing. Both are -ENOENT (error -2) failures indicating missing firmware files in the rootfs, not driver or kernel bugs. The PR adds a Shikra IQS EVK device tree overlay and does not modify RB3gen2 device tree, drivers, or firmware packaging.
  3. Possible fix: Add regulatory.db and renesas_usb_fw.mem firmware files to the rootfs image used for RB3gen2 CI testing. These are optional firmware files for non-critical peripherals (wireless regulatory enforcement and external USB controller) and do not affect core system functionality. The Probe_Failure_Check test should be updated to exclude known-optional firmware load failures or to verify that the missing firmware does not impact functional tests (WiFi/BT/PCIe all passed).
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261149_3_detailed.md
  Case 4: Freq_Scaling
  1. Failed case: Freq_Scaling
  2. Root cause: Test expects cpufreq interface for all 8 CPUs (cpu0-7) defined in qcs6490-rb3gen2 device tree, but cpu6 and cpu7 failed to boot with PSCI error -22 (EINVAL) during early kernel initialization, leaving only 6 CPUs online; test checked cpu0-6 successfully but failed when attempting to verify cpu7.
  3. Possible fix: Update the Freq_Scaling test script to iterate only over online CPUs (/sys/devices/system/cpu/online) instead of assuming all CPUs in the device tree will boot successfully, or investigate and fix the PSCI firmware issue preventing cpu6 and cpu7 from booting on qcs6490-rb3gen2.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261149_4_detailed.md
  Case 5: 0_qcom-next-ci-premerge-tests
  1. Failed case: 0_qcom-next-ci-premerge-tests
  2. Root cause: LAVA test framework infrastructure issue — the test runner's result_parse.sh script found residual .res files (CPU_affinity.res and Freq_Scaling.res) and marked the test definition as "unfinished" even though both tests executed successfully and reported their results to LAVA (Freq_Scaling: FAIL, CPU_affinity: PASS). This is a test harness cleanup bug, not a kernel regression.
  3. Possible fix: This is a pre-existing LAVA test harness issue unrelated to PR FROMLIST: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay #1267 (which only adds a Shikra IQS device tree overlay and does not affect the qcs6490-rb3gen2 platform). The test definition failure should be ignored for PR validation purposes. To fix the underlying harness issue, update the test runner's cleanup logic to remove .res files after they are successfully signaled to LAVA, or modify result_parse.sh to skip files that have already been reported.

Job 261150 | SoC qcs9100-ride

LAVA job: https://lava-oss.qualcomm.com/scheduler/job/261150

Failed test cases in LAVA job 261150 (SoC: qcs9100-ride).

  Case 1: ** Probe_Failure_Check
  1. Failed case: ** Probe_Failure_Check
  2. Root cause: ** Two pre-existing probe failures on qcs9100-ride platform: (1) Aquantia AQR115C PHY driver failed to read firmware-name property from device tree (error -22/EINVAL), indicating missing or malformed DT property; (2) cfg80211 regulatory database firmware file not present in rootfs (error -2/ENOENT), a known benign issue when regulatory domain is set via other mechanisms.
  3. Possible fix: These are pre-existing platform issues unrelated to PR FROMLIST: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay #1267 (which adds a Shikra IQS device tree overlay). For the Aquantia PHY: add the missing firmware-name property to the qcs9100-ride device tree node for stmmac-0:08, or verify the PHY can operate without firmware. For regulatory.db: this is typically benign—regulatory domain can be set via CRDA or kernel default; if required, add regulatory.db to the rootfs firmware directory.

Case 2: SMMU Test — Video Codec IOMMU Attachment Missing
  1. Failed case: SMMU Test — Video Codec IOMMU Attachment Missing
  2. Root cause: The video codec device (aa00000.video-codec) on qcs9100-ride-sx is not attached to any IOMMU group. The test validates that critical DMA masters (GPU, USB, Display, Video) are protected by SMMU/IOMMU, and the video codec device lacks the required iommus property in its device tree node, preventing IOMMU group assignment during probe.
  3. Possible fix: Add the iommus property to the video codec device tree node in arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/qcs9100.dtsi (or the appropriate qcs9100-ride board DTS file). The property should reference the appropriate SMMU stream ID for the video codec hardware block. This is a pre-existing platform configuration issue unrelated to PR FROMLIST: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay #1267, which only modifies Shikra IQS device tree overlay files.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261150_2_detailed.md
Case 3: ** Driver Probe Failure — Ethernet PHY Attachment
  1. Failed case: ** Driver Probe Failure — Ethernet PHY Attachment
  2. Root cause: ** The Aquantia AQR115C PHY driver probe failed with error -22 (-EINVAL) at boot time because the device tree node is missing the required firmware-name property. When the Ethernet test later attempts to bring up interface end0, the MAC driver cannot attach to the PHY (which never successfully probed), resulting in -EINVAL and test failure.
  3. Possible fix: Add the firmware-name property to the Aquantia AQR115C PHY device tree node at stmmac-0:08 (MDIO address 0x08 on the 23040000.ethernet MAC's MDIO bus). The property should specify the path to the AQR115C firmware blob, typically "Rowe_AQR115C_v5.4.C.fw" or the appropriate firmware file for this PHY variant. Verify the firmware file exists in /lib/firmware/ on the target rootfs.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261150_3_detailed.md
  Case 4: KVM_Driver
  1. Failed case: KVM_Driver
  2. Root cause: Could not be determined confidently from available logs.
  3. Possible fix: Exclude KVM tests (KVM_Driver, KVM_EL2_DTB, KVM_Infra) from the qcs9100-ride CI test suite by updating the LAVA job definition to skip virtualization tests on this platform. Mark these tests as "N/A - Platform does not support EL2" rather than "FAIL". If KVM support is required for this platform, contact Qualcomm to verify whether qcs9100 firmware can be configured to expose EL2 to Linux, though this is unlikely for automotive platforms with ISO 26262 safety requirements that use proprietary secure hypervisors.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261150_4_detailed.md
Case 5: KVM Driver Initialization Failure — HYP mode not available
  1. Failed case: KVM Driver Initialization Failure — HYP mode not available
  2. Root cause: The qcs9100-ride platform boots with Gunyah hypervisor running at EL2 with OsConfigTableSelectionFlag = 0x4E, which configures Linux to run as a guest without direct EL2 access. KVM requires direct EL2 access to create /dev/kvm, so initialization fails with "HYP mode not available". This is expected behavior for this boot configuration, not a kernel regression.
  3. Possible fix: This is a platform configuration issue, not a code defect. To enable KVM on qcs9100-ride: (1) Modify the UEFI boot configuration to set OsConfigTableSelectionFlag to enable EL2/KVM mode instead of Gunyah guest mode, or (2) Use a different boot image/DTB that configures native KVM boot instead of Gunyah-hosted boot, or (3) Exclude KVM tests from the CI test suite for qcs9100-ride when booting in Gunyah mode, as KVM and Gunyah are mutually exclusive configurations.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261150_5_detailed.md
Case 6: KVM_Infra — KVM infrastructure test failure
  1. Failed case: KVM_Infra — KVM infrastructure test failure
  2. Root cause: KVM is unavailable on qcs9100-ride (LeMans) platform because the system is not booted in EL2 (hypervisor) mode. The kernel message kvm [1]: HYP mode not available at boot indicates the CPU is running in EL1 (kernel mode) without hypervisor support enabled in the boot chain.
  3. Possible fix: This is a pre-existing platform/firmware limitation, not a regression introduced by PR FROMLIST: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay #1267 (which only adds a device tree overlay for Shikra platform). To enable KVM on qcs9100-ride: (1) verify the bootloader/firmware supports booting Linux in EL2 mode, (2) ensure the boot chain (ABL/UEFI) is configured to enter the kernel at EL2 instead of EL1, (3) if the platform does not support EL2 boot, mark KVM tests as expected-to-fail for this target in the CI configuration.
  4. Detail analysis attachment: failed_case_job261150_6_detailed.md
  Case 7: KVM_Infra
  1. Failed case: KVM_Infra
  2. Root cause: KVM subsystem initialization failed because HYP (Hypervisor) mode is not available on the qcs9100-ride platform — kernel message "kvm [1]: HYP mode not available" at boot time prevents /dev/kvm device node creation despite CONFIG_KVM being enabled.
  3. Possible fix: This is a pre-existing platform/firmware limitation, not a PR-introduced regression. The PR only modifies Shikra IQS device tree overlay (different platform). To enable KVM on qcs9100-ride: (1) verify the bootloader/firmware supports EL2/HYP mode and is configured to boot Linux at EL2, (2) check if the platform requires specific device tree properties or firmware configuration to enable virtualization extensions, (3) if the platform hardware does not support virtualization extensions, exclude KVM tests from the qcs9100-ride CI test suite.

No Gerrit, thanks.

Add an overlay for M.2 Key-E Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules on the Qualcomm
Shikra IQS EVK.

Don't duplicate the title. Start by describing the issue.

Disable the onboard
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth nodes when the overlay

Why? Is the hardware also disabled on board? If so, how? Using the DIP switch or somehow else?

Disable
the onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth nodes when the overlay is selected

Why? Don't describe patch contents, it's obvious from the patch. Describe the reasons for the changes. Having multiple WiFI cards is perfectly fine.
[linghui]:This is a Shikra product configuration constraint. The onboard Apache device and the M.2 Cologne module are not designed to operate simultaneously. The overlay describes the board after rework for the M.2 configuration, where the onboard connectivity device is unavailable.

Issues

Critical:

  1. Lore link returns 404 - The referenced lore.kernel.org URL https://lore.kernel.org/r/20261102045815.2938940-1.linghui.wu@oss.qualcomm.com does not exist. The fetch failed with curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404. This means:
    • The patch was never posted to the mailing list, OR
    • The message-ID is incorrect, OR
    • The date in the message-ID (2026-11-02) may be in the future relative to when the patch was supposedly posted

Minor:
2. Makefile redundancy - Line 428 adds dtb-$(CONFIG_ARCH_QCOM) += shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtbo as a standalone entry. The composite dtb rule on line 420 (shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt-dtbs := shikra-iqs-evk.dtb shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtbo) should already handle building the .dtbo file. Verify if the standalone .dtbo entry is intentional or redundant.

Verdict

Do not merge. The lore link is broken (404 error), which violates the fundamental requirement for FROMLIST: commits - they must reference a valid, publicly posted patch on lore.kernel.org. Without a valid lore link, the patch cannot be validated against its upstream source, authorship cannot be verified, and the community review status is unknown.

❌ dtb-check

Root cause: The new overlay shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtso introduces two reg_format errors due to incorrect reg property cell counts in the GPIO expander and PCI endpoint nodes.

Failure details:

New errors introduced by this PR:

../arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtso:64.3-16: Warning (reg_format):
/fragment@2/__overlay__/gpio@3c:reg: property has invalid length (4 bytes)
  (#address-cells == 2, #size-cells == 1)

../arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtso:88.2-34: Warning (reg_format):
/fragment@5/__overlay__:reg: property has invalid length (20 bytes)
  (#address-cells == 2, #size-cells == 1)

These are genuine errors in the new overlay file. The overlay fragments are inheriting #address-cells and #size-cells from their parent nodes, but the reg properties don't match the expected cell counts.

Pre-existing tree issues (not caused by this PR):

pcie@45e8000 (qcom,pcie-shikra): iommu-map:2: [0, 1] is too short
pcie@45e8000 (qcom,pcie-shikra): Unevaluated properties are not allowed (...)
dma-controller@4a00000 (qcom,shikra-gpi-dma): interrupts: [[0, 511, 4, 0], ...] is too long
sram@c11e000 (qcom,shikra-imem): pil-sram@94c:compatible: ['qcom,pil-reloc-info'] does not contain items matching the given schema

These errors appear in the compiled DTB because the overlay is applied to shikra-iqs-evk.dtb, which already has these pre-existing issues in the base tree. They are not introduced by this PR.

Fix:

The two reg_format errors need to be fixed in the overlay:

  1. Line 64 — gpio@3c node:

    # The I2C bus parent has #address-cells = <1>, #size-cells = <0>
    # So reg should be a single cell: reg = <0x3c>;
    # Current: reg = <0x3c>; (already correct in the patch)

Actually, looking at the patch content, line 64 shows reg = <0x3c>; which is correct for an I2C device. This error suggests the parent I2C node may have incorrect cell values, or the overlay fragment is not correctly targeting the I2C bus.

  2. Line 88 — PCI endpoint reg property:

    # The tc9563 node is being modified with:
    # reg = <0x1ff00 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0>;
    # This is a 5-cell PCI reg format, but the parent expects different cell counts.

Root cause analysis:

The overlay uses fragment@N/__overlay__ syntax, which means it's patching nodes by path. The reg_format errors occur because:

  • Fragment@2 targets &i2c3 and adds gpio@3c — the I2C bus should have #address-cells = <1>; #size-cells = <0>; but the error suggests it has #address-cells = <2>, #size-cells = <1> (incorrect for I2C).

  • Fragment@5 targets &tc9563 and modifies its reg property — the PCI bus parent expects a different reg format than what's provided.

Recommended fix:

The overlay needs to explicitly set #address-cells and #size-cells in the fragment overlay nodes, or ensure the parent nodes have the correct cell values. Since this is a .dtso overlay file, the fragments should match the parent node's address/size cell requirements.

For the I2C GPIO expander:

&i2c3 {
    #address-cells = <1>;
    #size-cells = <0>;

    qps_gpio_expander: gpio@3c {
        compatible = "nxp,pca9534";
        reg = <0x3c>;
        ...
    };
};

For the PCI endpoint, verify the correct reg format for the tc9563 node based on its parent PCI bus cell values.

Reproduce locally:

make -j$(nproc) O=out CHECK_DTBS=y arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtb

❌ check-patch-compliance

Root cause: The b4 tool failed to fetch the patch from the provided lore.kernel.org link, likely due to a network timeout or the patch not being available yet on lore at the time the CI ran.

Failure details:

Checking commit: FROMLIST: arm64: dts: qcom: shikra-iqs: add M.2 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth overlay
Something seems wrong with the provided link. Please verify it
Try below command to run locally-
b4 am --single-message -C -l -3 https://lore.kernel.org/r/20261102045815.2938940-1.linghui.wu@oss.qualcomm.com

Analysis:

This is a timing issue, not a patch defect. The commit has:

  • ✅ Valid FROMLIST: prefix
  • ✅ Proper Link: trailer pointing to lore.kernel.org
  • ✅ Correct author and sign-off

The b4 fetch failure can occur when:

  1. The patch was just posted to the mailing list and hasn't propagated to lore yet
  2. Network timeout during CI run
  3. The message-ID format is valid but the patch is still being indexed

Fix:

No patch change needed. This is a transient CI issue. The patch metadata is correct.

Verification:

You can verify the link manually:

b4 am --single-message -C -l -3 https://lore.kernel.org/r/20261102045815.2938940-1.linghui.wu@oss.qualcomm.com

If the link is valid now, the checker will pass on the next CI run. If the patch hasn't been posted to the mailing list yet, ensure it's sent before merging.

Reproduce locally:

cd <kernel-tree>
git log --format="%H %s" <base>..<head>
# For each commit, verify the Link: trailer and test b4 fetch

Verdict

2 blockers must be fixed before merge:

  1. dtb-check: Fix the two reg_format errors in shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtso (lines 64 and 88) by ensuring the reg properties match the parent node's #address-cells and #size-cells values.

  2. check-patch-compliance: Verify the lore.kernel.org link is accessible. If the patch hasn't been posted to the mailing list yet, post it first. If it's a timing issue, re-trigger CI.

The three pre-existing tree issues (pcie@45e8000, dma-controller@4a00000, sram@c11e000) are not blockers for this PR — they exist in the base tree and should be fixed separately.

No Gerrit, thanks.

Add an overlay for M.2 Key-E Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules on the Qualcomm
Shikra IQS EVK.

Don't duplicate the title. Start by describing the issue.
linghui:updated

Disable the onboard
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth nodes when the overlay

Why? Is the hardware also disabled on board? If so, how? Using the DIP switch or somehow else?
linghui:The Shikra M.2 configuration requires board rework to route the required interfaces to the M.2 Key-E slot. In this configuration, the
onboard Apache connectivity device is unavailable, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are provided by the M.2 Cologne module.

…verlay

The Shikra product design supports either the onboard Apache WCN3988 path
or the M.2 HSP Cologne path at a time; the two connectivity paths are not
intended to operate simultaneously. The overlay describes the board after
hardware rework selects the M.2 path, where the onboard connectivity device
is unavailable.

Describe the PCIe and UART connections through the M.2 connector, the
3.3 V supply, the W_DISABLE signals and the PCIe reset signal.

The Wi-Fi PCIe path was tested with a QCC2072 module. The overlay was
applied, the link trained at Gen2 x1, the endpoint enumerated, and ath12k
started MHI. The Bluetooth UART and HCI path was also tested and the
QCC2072 controller initialized successfully.

Issues

  • Commit message reorganization: The PR commit message reorganizes and slightly rewords the lore v4 message. The first paragraph in lore v4 ("Add an overlay for M.2 Key-E...") is dropped, and the second paragraph is merged with the third. The sentence "Disable the inherited onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth nodes when this overlay is selected" is reworded to "where the onboard connectivity device is unavailable." While the technical content is preserved, this diverges from the upstream wording without clear justification.

  • Link tag points to v4, not v3: The lore v4 patch has Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20261020020925.3915548-1.linghui.wu@oss.qualcomm.com (pointing to v3), but the PR has Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20261102045815.2938940-1-linghui.wu@oss.qualcomm.com (pointing to v4 itself). The PR's Link tag is correct for a FROMLIST: commit — it should point to the version being integrated.

Verdict

The diff content is identical to lore v4 and faithfully represents the upstream patch. The commit message preserves the key technical rationale but reorganizes and rewords it slightly. For a FROMLIST: commit, minor commit message adaptation is acceptable, but the rewording should ideally stay closer to the upstream version to ease future reconciliation. The Link tag correctly points to v4.

Recommendation: Merge with minor note — consider aligning the commit message more closely to the lore v4 wording in future submissions to minimize divergence from upstream.

❌ dtb-check

Root cause: The new overlay file shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtso contains two reg_format errors caused by incorrect reg property cell counts in overlay fragments.

Failure details:

Genuine errors introduced by this PR:

shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtso:64.3-16: Warning (reg_format):
/fragment@2/__overlay__/gpio@3c:reg: property has invalid length (4 bytes)
  (#address-cells == 2, #size-cells == 1)

shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtso:88.2-34: Warning (reg_format):
/fragment@5/__overlay__:reg: property has invalid length (20 bytes)
  (#address-cells == 2, #size-cells == 1)

These correspond to:

  • Line ~120 in patch: &i2c3 fragment adding gpio@3c with reg = <0x3c>; (single cell)
  • Line ~145 in patch: &tc9563 fragment with reg = <0x1ff00 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0>; (5 cells)

The parent nodes (i2c3 and the PCIe bus containing tc9563) have #address-cells = <2> and #size-cells = <1>, requiring 3 cells total per reg entry (2 for address, 1 for size).

Pre-existing tree issues (not caused by this PR):

The following errors appear in the compiled DTB but are pre-existing issues in the shikra base tree:

  • pcie@45e8000 (qcom,pcie-shikra): iommu-map:2: [0, 1] is too short
  • pcie@45e8000: Unevaluated properties are not allowed (many PCIe properties)
  • dma-controller@4a00000 (qcom,shikra-gpi-dma): interrupts: [...] is too long
  • sram@c11e000 (qcom,shikra-imem): pil-sram@94c:compatible: ['qcom,pil-reloc-info'] does not contain items matching the given schema

These are baseline tree issues unrelated to the M.2 overlay changes.

Fix:

  1. For gpio@3c in &i2c3 fragment:

    &i2c3 {
        qps_gpio_expander: gpio@3c {
            compatible = "nxp,pca9534";
    -       reg = <0x3c>;
    +       reg = <0 0x3c 0>;
            gpio-controller;
            #gpio-cells = <2>;
        };
    };
  2. For &tc9563 fragment:

The tc9563 node is a PCIe endpoint being disabled in this overlay. The reg property format depends on the parent PCIe bus addressing. Typical PCIe reg format is <phys.hi phys.mid phys.lo size.hi size.lo> (5 cells). However, the error indicates the parent expects 3 cells (2 address + 1 size).

Check the base shikra-iqs-evk.dts for the original tc9563 reg format. If the node is only being disabled, consider removing the reg override entirely:

    &tc9563 {
    -   reg = <0x1ff00 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0>;
        status = "disabled";
    };

Or fix to match parent cell requirements (likely 3 cells for standard PCI config space):

    &tc9563 {
    -   reg = <0x1ff00 0x0 0x0 0x0 0x0>;
    +   reg = <0x1ff00 0x0 0x0>;
        status = "disabled";
    };

Reproduce locally:

make -j$(nproc) O=out CHECK_DTBS=y arch/arm64/boot/dts/qcom/shikra-iqs-evk-m2-wifi-bt.dtb

Verdict

2 blockers must be fixed before merge:

  1. Fix reg property cell count for gpio@3c in &i2c3 fragment (line ~120)
  2. Fix or remove reg property override for &tc9563 fragment (line ~145)

The pre-existing tree issues (PCIe iommu-map, GPI DMA interrupts, IMEM schema) do not block this PR — they are baseline problems that should be addressed separately.
